About Us

Wydra Baby Wren - Devon and Cornwall Longwool gimmer lamb 2025

Sheep Are In The Blood...

Sheep have been in my blood since I was nine years old, when I started helping with a local flock called Nidderdale Vendeens.

I spent six years falling in love with sheep, including my own pet lamb (who bred me some lovely lambs and ran the Ripley Show 3k fun run with me) before school and life took over.

I've never been blessed with a family farm - my father's side were lucky enough to own one - so continuing sheep wasn't easy after high school, and I ended up going to work with racehorses, on a dairy farm, in retail.

In 2022 I approached a local farmer who lost his leg due to diabetes to see if I could help with his flock. I absolutely loved it, and those sheep saved me.

After his death in 2022, I bought 10 of his shearling gimmers from the estate, and so began my commercial flock.

I also found five Devon and Cornwall Longwool ewes for sale, and my passion for helping rare breeds flared to life.

Over the past few years, I've grown the commercial and rare breed flock, veered into the Bluefaced Leicester arena, and have a small number of wonkies who cost me an arm and a leg, but give back so much more.

I'm what they call a "soft" farmer - I hate sending anything for cull, I hate sending lambs to market, and I try to save everything (hence the wonkies)!

Right now, I'm cutting down my commercial flock to concentrate on the Longwools and Leicesters, and my project breed, the Devonshire Longwool.

My sheep are currently scattered across Nidderdale from Otley to Pateley Bridge until, hopefully, I can find a tenant farm to call my own and give my sheep a solid home base.

I'm a big believer that fleece is worth a lot more than what we've been told, which is why I try and have stock available year round for those crafters who understand the true value of wool and everything it can become.

Breeding stock is available from ewes to tups, and next year I hope to be able to offer teaser tups as well.
